In college, overwhelmed by all the sticky v-day candies, cards, and sentiments, my good friend Steph and I decided to instead celebrate the day of Hate and Killing. The D of H&K is the anti-Vday; it is not commercialized, it is not cute or special or fun. It is tragic, and wonderful. Steph and I would dress in black, look angry (except when laughing about how angry we looked), play racquetball (an angry activity for us), and watch bloody movies. Good times.

Not that I hate the underlying concept of Vday, but all the candy hearts and meaningless "I love you's" do nothing for me. If you love someone, hoorah for you, but do you really need a reminder to be nice to them for one day? Seems silly to me. Couples already have holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, etc. Another day, really? Seems superfluous to me.

This D of H&K, Luke is out with the youth group, so I think I'll be celebrating alone. I plan on turning off all the lights, lighting some candles (sounds romantic, kinda...), and then watching some bloody crime shows. Should be fun, and I could use the alone time too. I've been reflective lately, and I think that's a good thing.

Not everyone can like their job. This is my mantra. I repeat it over and over to calm myself down. The job market does not OWE me a job I like. Just because I have a degree doesn't mean I get happiness (though I paid a heck of a lot for college, thinking that would work). Not everyone can like their job. Not everyone can like their job.

In two days, I will be in Cancun. On the beach. With a drink. In a swimsuit (looking PASTY!). Maybe reading or knitting....ahhhhhh. I am so ready to be warm, and I just don't think warm is a distinct possibility in this state (or hemisphere) for another few months.

The sock knitting pattern is going over well. So far, roughly 450 people have downloaded the pattern. It's so exciting to watch the number go up! Yay!
