The Smoky Smell of Sin

I work closely with a woman named Tammy. She is a funny red-head who chose to file her taxes with 8 dependents (she has 1 child) because she thought you could just pick as many as you wanted. For obvious reasons, the IRS did not like this and she had to refile. Even though she makes many mistakes like this, today I think she might be in the right.

This morning, another co-worker of mine, Gwen (the one who made the hair comments), told Tammy that she is going to hell because she smokes. Gwen calmly gave Tammy a Our Daily Bread pamphlet and told Tammy that she needs to be saved from her sins.

Tammy told Gwen that if she was perfect, Jesus needn't have died for her. She also said, "I'm not so sure that smoking is a sin. Sure, it's a bad habit that I probably should quit, but I'm not sure that it's morally wrong."

Gwen replied, "You can tell it's a sin, because smoking cigarettes smells just like where they come from....hell!"

Now, hold up.

If it smells like burning/smoke it's from hell? Oh, crap, I'm in trouble.

See, I really like bonfires. And even though I can sit around one and sing church songs (I don't do that frequently, but I'm just sayin'), it is leading me straight down the path of eternal flames.

And it doesn't stop there! Do you like to order sizzlin fajitas at a Mexican restaurant? Ummm....they are smoking hot, which means that Satan made them. Think of that before you order next time.

Have you ever accidently overcooked something? Yeah, I thought so, sinner.

Do you own a fireplace, a gas stove, or perhaps some satanic candles? Flames, flames, flames, and hellfire!

Now, to be clear, I'm not saying that smoking is good. It's not; it's a dirty, nasty, smelly habit. All I'm saying is that where there's smoke, there's not always the Devil.

Ok then I'm really confused, if flames/smoke/candles are satanic, why do we light candles at church during Christmas to celebrate Advent?? Oh fiddlesticks...I had candles at our wedding too!!

What a confused lady, although it makes for good stories. :)
